This exhibition reflects the interactive and participatory nature of the research contained within it. Beginning with a set of "Knowledge Exchanges" across eight tower communities in Toronto,Parks in Action turns community participation into empowerment by breaking down barriers to understanding and advocating for urban change.
Conceptualized across five themes (Urban Heat, Urban Flooding, Ecology & GreenInfrastructure, Mobility & Transportation and Public Space Activation), solutions for Toronto’s most pressing urban issues can be understood and used in new and innovative ways through our park and open space system. While they are not mutually exclusive, putting these climate-oriented solutions into themes helps streamline solutions for effective decision making.
The set of cards below can be used alone to stimulate conversation, or be used alongside the game board base, visible on tables laid out in front of the exhibit. Using the cards, game board and associated prompts offers new understandings of what community engagement could look like as development across Toronto continues and we strive for a more equitable and inclusive public realm.
